Laurian Furtuna (1996) - Milo
Akríl - Merkt - 90x60 cm
While there are thousands of statues of goddesses in art history, none is more famous than Venus from Milo. Her missing limbs add to the mystery of an already enigmatic work of art.
Laurian decided to cut Venus's head too, to highlight the destructive effect that earthly materialistic pleasures have on our souls and holiness. The unfinished head that is laying at the bottom of the piece shows the disappointment that people have after they realize this destruction. Is it easier to abstain? Or is cutting our hands, like Venus from Milo, the only option we have to stop this self-destruction?
